Intro

Lokaalt is a Swedish startup building a digital platform to strengthen local community connections and support local businesses. This branding project focused on defining a clear identity, positioning Lokaalt in the market, and designing a cohesive brand and mobile interface aligned with its purpose.







The Problem

Lokaalt lacked clear differentiation in a competitive market, and its early interface did not fully reflect its purpose or support intuitive user interaction. The platform needed a stronger identity and a clearer user experience to communicate its value and support community engagement.



















Research

As part of the team, I conducted competitor analysis to understand how similar platforms structured their identity, communication, and user experience. This included Facebook Groups, Meetup, WhatsApp Communities, Lokal Helhet, Shopify, Nextdoor and Thatsup.

The research focused on identifying gaps in brand storytelling, visual identity, and interface clarity. These insights helped define Lokaalt’s positioning and informed the development of its identity and mobile interface.

Solution

Working collaboratively, we developed a new brand identity and mobile interface aligned with Lokaalt’s mission.

I contributed to shaping the brand narrative, including the concept behind the name Lokaalt, where the double “aa” symbolized two eyes representing local exploration and discovery. This concept informed the logo, typography, and visual system.

The identity system was applied across multiple touchpoints, including merchandise, digital platforms, and public-facing materials, creating a consistent and recognizable presence.

In parallel, I contributed to designing and prototyping the mobile app interface in Figma. The new interface improved structure, readability, and usability, supporting clearer interaction and engagement.




































Outcome

The project established a clear and cohesive brand identity for Lokaalt, applied across digital and physical touchpoints. Merchandise, including tote bags, hoodies, and street applications, extended the identity into real-world contexts and strengthened brand visibility.

The new interface prototype and identity system provided a strong foundation for Lokaalt’s product development and positioning as a community-focused platform.
